Of all the men to rise and fall on the Great plains of Andosia, only two were ever successful in safeguarding the entirety of their homelands against the marauding armies of the mountain cities of Uragard far to the north. For almost a thousand years, the dark riders from the mountains had riden down through Andosian lands, raiding the unprotected settlements and eslaving any that did not fall under their hooves or swords in defence of their homes and families. Huge swathes of the populace withdrew to the cities, safer in the shadows of the sixty foot high walls of granite and limestone.

Two rain soaked sentries snapped a salute to each group of their superiors as they filtered from the darkness into the lantern lit lobby in twos and threes.
